SALUTING OUR MILITARY: Sergeant First Class Jamie Buckley
Sgt. 1st Class Jamie Buckley was born in Hamilton, Ohio, and was raised in Pasco, Wash. He graduated from Pasco Senior High School in June 1988. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1988 as a Chemical Operations Specialist. Buckley’s first duty assignment was in Bamberg, Germany. He served with 3-35 Armor Battalion, 3d “Bulldog” Brigade, 1st Armored Division as a Company Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Noncommissioned Officer.
His unit participated in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm and was awarded the Valorous Unit Award for its actions during the “100-hour ground campaign” that eventually led to the unconditional surrender of all Iraqi Forces. After that, Buckley returned to Germany and was then Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army.
During his time as a civilian, he performed duties as an Emergency 911 Dispatcher and Deputy Sheriff in his hometown. It was during this time that Buckley began singing at local clubs and lodges around Southeastern Washington. After two years of singing at local gigs, he wanted to take his singing to a new level. He and his wife decided that the U.S. Army could help him realize his dream of someday making it to Nashville. Buckley went to the same recruiting station where he enlisted from nine years earlier and reenlisted in the U.S. Army with a direct assignment to Fort Hood, Texas.
Buckley was assigned as a vocalist to the 4th Infantry Division Band where he served for two and a half years. He was then assigned to the Eighth U.S. Army Band in Seoul, Korea, in 2000. His next assignment landed him at Fort Knox, Ky., in the 113th Army Band. During this time, Buckley not only served as an Army Ambassador through his music, but he also maintained his proficiency as a Chemical Operations NCO by serving in company to brigade size NBC positions. Buckley was then assigned to Fort Knox’s, NBC Defense Course as an Instructor for Initial Entry Training and later as the Committee Chief overseeing the entire NBC School at Fort Knox.
In 2003 Buckley volunteered to become a U.S. Army Recruiter and was assigned to the Seattle Recruiting Battalion in the same recruiting station from which he enlisted, Kennewick Recruiting Station. Now a 79R-Career Recruiter, he is reassigned to USAREC Headquarters at Fort Knox where he tours all over the United States supporting USAREC’s recruiting mission through his music. While serving in his current assignment, he has been booked at venues with country superstars, Toby Keith, Big & Rich, Kenny Chesney and Brooks & Dunn.
Buckley was the Distinguished Honor Graduate in Basic Combat Training, Honor Graduate of his Advanced Individual Training class, a graduate of the Primary Leadership Development Course, Honor Graduate of the U.S. Army Chemical School’s Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Leadership Awardee for the U.S. Army Chemical School’s Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Recruiting and Retention School.
Buckley’s awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (8th Award), Joint Service Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (4th Award), Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwaiti Government), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with Number 3 Device), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, the Valorous Unit Award, Driver’s Badge and the U.S. Army Recruiter Badge (Silver with three Gold Stars).
